About Me
All Things Lavender
How did my interest and love for this aromatic herb with the beautiful blue flowers start? I would say without a doubt it was my Grandma’s love for lavender that started it all.
Being a ‘baby boomer’ myself this meant my Grandmother was born in the Victorian era to a strict Victorian family who had a sprawling home in the Adelaide hills and all the trappings of wealth.
My Gran saw little of her parents, but had a sister and two brothers plus endless servants and a lovely housekeeper to keep her company.
Then the inevitable happened. She was not interested in the attention of her wealthy suitors, but instead fell in love with the baker. Oh no! A man from ‘below stairs’.
Although my Gran was very quietly spoken, she had a mind of her own. So as quick as you can say ‘I do’, she went from ‘riches to rags’ but never for a moment regretted her decision to marry my grandfather.
By the time I was old enough to spend holidays on my own with my Gran; my Grandfather had died so I have no memories of him. Unlike my Gran who I always loved spending time with.
She would tell me amazing stories of a life I could only read about and escape into my imagination with when things in life were not as interesting as I thought they should be! But how did this lead to my love of lavender?
It started with a bottle that was sitting on my Gran’s dressing table. This was a bottle of lavender water, as my Gran called it. I could tell by the way she spoke of it, that it must be very special and probably cost a lot.
Only in later years did my own Mother tell me that when she and her older brother went to the Royal Show, all my Gran wanted them to bring back for her was a Yardley bag with her favourite lavender inside.
Only now do I realise it must have soothed her work-weary hands and the persistent eczema she suffered throughout her ‘hard years’ when my Grandfather was out of work and she was forced to take in other peoples’ washing to put food on their table each day.
She probably didn’t realise it was the lavender that took away the pain of that skin disorder she suffered so much with. She just loved that lovely lavender water perfume and that’s how it was with Gran. She knew what she liked and that was it!
The smell of lavender was further enhanced when I got to open the bottle and dab some lavender on my wrists and behind my ears. I was feeling so grown up and smelt amazing. I thought so anyway and my lovely Gran wouldn’t disagree as it was her perfume I was using!
She didn’t seem to mind as she was introducing me to her favourite of all time perfumes and to this day all things lavender still remind me of her.
Of course I have many more lavender products to choose from. If you were to open my bathroom cabinet you would see lavender products with various uses, neatly displayed in all their glory.
From lavender shower wash to lavender creams and now with this blog up and running, there is an excellent reason to purchase even more. After all, I will need to review these lavender products and their many uses won’t I now?!
I can definitely say Grandma certainly did know best and it’s thanks to her that I have this love for all things lavender.
If you have a love for all things lavender and would like to learn more about lavender products and lavender uses, please subscibe to my regular updates. Thanks for visiting.

Hello Patricia,
Somehow I found your site while searching for help on my fledgling blog … yours is quite a find! How lovely your site is! I’ve subscribed to your mailing list & look forward to reading more! So much for me to learn …
Thank you!
Hi Tess
Welcome to my blog and thanks for staying to comment. I just checked out your blog. Looks like you have some interesting posts for me to read too. And I like your background on your blog
Hopefully as you come back and visit again you will be able to stop awhile and find some posts that you can enjoy.
BTW Tess just a suggestion. Good to go get an avatar from Gravitar.com as some blogs don’t approve comments without one.

OK! I got the gravatar! Thanks!
Yay, well done Tess. You took action and now when you go visit other blogs, people will see you are a “real” person.

Patricia from Canada likes this blog, too!
Lavender has become one of my favourites & I have written about it in my blog at various times.
Last summer wrote about a lavender use at http://tinyurl.com/63ulsvb .
You have so many great ideas for lavender!
Hi Patricia
Will check out your lavender post…yay it is so good to meet other lavender lovers
Thanks for stopping by and also for subscribing to my newsletter.
I will say that many of my regular readers now know heaps more about lavender than it is a flower and you can get lavender soap LOL
So I’m pleased that I am informing people about the lovely lavender’s many uses. That was one of my goals for writing this blog. My other one was to have this as a platform for my lavender products.
Although I have sold a lot more lavender products offline, the online sales are starting to happen now too.
Appreciate you taking time to have a look around my blog and staying to comment Patricia. Hope you enjoy many more posts over here on my small niche blog.
Well, that may be true that comments don’t equal sales, but they do mean more people on the site and it gives a much different impression when a potential customer comes to a website with a lot of interaction.
The main thing about a blog for me is it is a fun way to engage and interact vs just a static site that mainly talks at visitors rather than engage them. 3 years ago I knew nothing about blogging and today, I can look back and know that had I not gotten into it, my business would not have survived.
When I first started building my site I would visit other blogs and engage in the community. I would get quite a bit of traffic back to my site by doing that and of course the links helped my rankings. However, one of the things that really turned out to be a bonus was that I learned so much about marketing, blogging, and seo by visiting other sites and actually reading the articles.
Be sure to update this site when your new one is out and we can head over and check it out.
Hi Damon
Great to hear that your blog has helped your business venture. There are pluseswith a blog in that it is easier to connect with others and it is great for networking.
However, I am finding that to run the sort of business I am hoping to have, I had to find other ways to expand and market. Too much time spent on Twitte and other blogs was not always time well spent lol
With a static site I will be selling products … hopefully! And I will add a blog component so there can still be the opportunity for interaction.
Must admit I have enjoyed meeting heaps of bloggers and learnt so much from them.
However, I have also found a lot of bloggers talk about making money online on their blogs but aren’t actually making much.
I have always aimed to sell physical products so my small niche lavender blog has been a platform for my business. However, it has not worked as well as I had wanted it to.
With the company I am building my new site with, it is still hard work and I don’t expect instant “success”; however I am hoping it will move me forward with growing my business as well as still offering heaps of free information that I hope will be of help to all who visit.
There will definitely be a post here at lavenderuses.com once I have the new site as I want it to be. That could be awhile cos I do tend to strive for high standards in all that I do
Thanks for adding to the conversation. So glad to hear you have found your niche and by the sound of things all’s going well for you.
BTW hopefully when you do visit my new site I hope you won’t feel I am talking at you

Thanks for the mention Steve. Much appreciated. I am not as active round the blogosphere at the moment.
Been building a new site and that’s taking up my time. People still come over and visit and take the time to comment on posts I have written and that is very much appreciated.
Will let my blogging buddies know when the new site is finished and worth a visit. Thanks again Steve and all the best on your journey too.

Hey Patricia,
When is the new site coming out? Hopefully it will be about how to build a blog from zero to hero in less than 18 months
If you can get 80 to 100 comments on every post you write and then that is someone I want to learn from
Any hints as to the subject of the new site?
Hi Damon
Sorry for the delay in replying. I have been busy building and hopefully the new site will be ready soon. I have it up and running but still heaps to do; including finding great products to review.
Having heaps of comments sure doesn’t equal sales lol And no it is a site that is in fact not a blog but a business site that will give good free information and also products to hopefully help people with specific skin conditions.
Will let my blog readers know when it is up for perusal and visiting.
BTW I have been active in networking, blog commenting and the like and being part of the commluv community helped also.
The downside is many visitors just come for the link juice and so I spend time sorting out spam too.
Blogs are not always the best for starting a business but I have made some great connections which has helped with learning about various aspects of having a business online.
