Lavender for Health

An Effective Natural Remedy

Increasingly lavender for health and well-being is chosen by many who see natural remedies as an option that has few side effects.

And as more clinical trials are being undertaken, there is now the medical research to back up these choices.

As I researched the many uses of the lovely lavender, I was surprised at not only how popular, but also how effective it is for many conditions.

So much so, I have devoted a section to writing about my findings in the Natural Treatments section you will see in the left navigation bar.

Please Note We Are All Different

However, a cautionary note is necessary here.  All individuals react differently to even the purest of organic matter.

If there is any underlying medical condition, a woman is pregnant or any past history that would contra-indicate use of lavender in any form; seek medical advice prior to its use.

Health Benefits of Lavender

There are many health benefits with lavender. If you choose lavender for health and well-being, maybe you have noted some of these benefits too.

  • Has been used as a relaxant
  • Can be of benefit when stressed or anxious
  • Is noted for effectiveness in healing acne
  • Assists  with wound healing
  • May be refreshing when tired and exhausted
  • May improve appearance and balance of oily skin
  • Has been known to heal burns
  • May assist with reducing scarring
  • Used as an insect repellant
  • Soothes sunburn (do NOT use as sunblock)
  • Acts as healing agent for cuts and abrasions
  • May alleviate nausea
  • Effective in treatment of athletes foot

With its antiseptic, antifungal and antibacterial properties; lavender for health and well-being is certainly one to consider.

And this list of the health benefits of lavender is in no way exhaustive. However, for diagnosis and treatment of any medical condition; it is advisable to seek medical help.

An experienced aromatherapist should be able to advise about natural remedies too.

Natural Remedies

An increasing number of us are becoming aware of the side-effects of pharmaceuticals and are looking for alternative therapies.

This has caused an increase in the number of natural remedies such as lavender products; that we can purchase from health stores and also from on-line stores.

Some Have Worked, Others Have Not … for me

On a personal note, I have found some natural products effective and others that have not worked for me; although they have been known to have  worked well for others.

Lavender By Choice

However, after working for many years as a nurse in many different medical fields and seeing the side effects of many prescription drugs; I prefer natural products for myself.

This has been an individual choice I have made after exhaustive reading and research.  Lavender is one of the products I use with beneficial results.

More Medical Trials Being Done

As we become more acquainted with natural remedies such as lavender for our health and well-being; I have become aware of more clinical studies being done.

They have confirmed that traditional natural remedies are as effectual today as they have been throughout the ages.

Lavender is an Amazing Aromatic Herb

The fact that lavender has many healing properties and is also such an amazing aromatic herb, is a bonus.   I will continue using lavender for my health and well-being. Maybe you will too.

What is the best way to get lavender oil at home? My mum is type 2 diabetic and having some feet problems. We have lavender in the field around our house, and I want to use that pure herb to help my mum relax. Any suggestion?

Hi Alba

Firstly I must apologise for not replying to your comment! I have just found it. Don’t know how that happened.

Make sure the lavender is organic. Don’t want to use any plant that is contaminated with chemicals or pesticides.

If it is English or French organic lavender you can add it to bath water, dry it and put it in a bowl so the aroma pervades the room and if you have any lavender oil that also can be added to bath water and some people put a few drops on a pillow to help with sleep.

I have written lots of articles about lavender products and lavender health and hopefully you will be able to decide how best you would like to use this amazing aromatic herb.

Thanks for stopping by and once again apologies for somehow missing your comment till now.

I love the scent of lavender oil. Just sniffing it makes me go “ahh” and seems to drain the stress away. If I can get some fresh leaves or flowers so much the better. Unfortunately I haven’t had much luck growing it here in my northern clime.
My sister who has fibromyalgia says it is the only scent she can tolerate and it helps her sleep better – no small feat.

PS – enjoyed your alexa post and empathized with your frustration. How is it that the number of visits goes up and their number stays the same??

Hi Val

Thanks for stopping by and adding to the conversation. I am just in the throes of re-doing miuch of the site with the help of a blogging buddy who is much more tech-savvy than me! Next week more of the topics I have written about will be up in the navigation bar so easier to find hopefully.

Lavender is my favourite essential oil and I have many lavender products (all organic) in my home.

Great to hear your sister gets some relief from the lovely lavender too.

I did a post on the treatment of insomnia and there are other posts sharing medical trials with various conditions where this amazing aromatic herb came out smelling sweet :-)

As for Alexa; I did write the article a bit “tongue-in-cheek” although it was interesting to hear everyone’s take on the subject.

Came to the conclusion if other bloggers who have Alexa toolbar installed visit then the Alexa ranking goes down (ie in the right direction) but if it is people looking for information or products and don’t have Alexa toolbar then they don’t count with Alexa!

so I’ll just keep writing about the lovely lavender and hopefully have some other products up shortly that I will also be reviewing and writing about.
