A Pain in the Butt. No worries, lavender to the rescue!
A clinical trial on the effectiveness of lavender for perineal pain got my interest. Especially as I had worked as a midwife and saw too many post-natal women suffering with this type of pain.
And Another Use for the Lovely Lavender
As an aromatic herb with known natural healing properties; I was encouraged to see these clinical trial results. Let me explain….
Aches ands Pains
I have seen for myself that many women’s tolerance of pain is often very high when the end result is a healthy baby.
However, once the euphoria of holding that bub for the first time and the visitors have gone home; the aches and pains can become a problem.
Clinical Trial
The following clinical trial could be of interest to those who are pregnant and still have the joys to go through. Or those who have just gone through labour.
In Cambridgeshire, England a blind randomised trial was carried out. This involved 635 women. They were divided into 3 groups for the trial. Those involved were divided as follows using:
- Pure lavender oil
- Synthetic lavender oil
- Inert substance
These were all added to the daily bath for 10 days. This was directly following childbirth.
Clinical Trial Results
The results that came in were as follows:
- Initially there was no difference recorded on the analysis of the daily discomfort score
- However, day 3 to 5 those postnatal women using the pure lavender oil recorded lower discomfort than the other groups
Lavender Still Smelling Sweet
This is an encouraging find as lavender oil has both anti-inflammatory and also antibacterial properties; so acts in more than one way to bring comfort and healing to this sensitive area, following childbirth.
It is interesting to note that following the study, no side-effects were reported.
Discharge from Hospital
As this is the time a woman will usually be discharged from hospital, it is also an important aspect of a woman’s well-being.
Often this is also the time frame when the pain can be exacerbated, as the mother is actively taking care of her newborn. She also may not have other help available; so resting to encourage healing may not be feasible.
Relief Welcome
The support provided by midwives is now not available on leaving hospital. Although there are home visits offered in some areas, it can still mean big adjustments being made on discharge from hospital.
Any relief from discomfort and help with returning to optimum health can only be a positive for the women concerned.
Lavender Essential Oil
As more clinical trials take place and data is being collected; it is encouraging to see that lavender essential oil is being seen to have important medicinal properties.
It also confirms what people have known for thousands of years about the healing properties of the lovely lavender.
Lavender’s Healing Properties
For regular readers of this blog, this will not come as a surprise. As I have researched and written about many uses for this amazing aromatic herb; this is another to add to the lovely lavender’s many properties.
This clinical trial has certainly shown that lavender for perineal pain is something to be considered. Another natural alternative with less side-effects can only be a good thing, surely.

Patricia,
These trials look great! Anytime we can avoid medications the better off we are.
When a mother is taking care of a newborn she needs to be aware and not drugged. And it is important that she is not passing drugs to her baby through her milk.
Hi Sheila
I so agree with your comment. The less medication a new Mum has the better! And I have noticed more and more people are looking at alternative natural health products as there are less side-effects.
Hope your week is going well. I know it was a special day for the US yesterday. Our day to honour our servicement is 25th April.
Thanks for stopping by and I’m now off to check out this post you have up.

Hi Patricia:
Wow you are opening lots wonderful Lavender secrets to the Internet world. You are a pioneer as far as I know to introduce these qualities and they are so many from healing to aches and pains.
I like the idea of it being good for moms. They do need special attention at this time and if Lavender can do it that is the best.
Make it a Super Profitable week for yourself.
Fran A
Hi Fran
How is your week going? Hope all’s going well for you. Thanks for your kind words and continued support of my lavender blog. Appreciated
I was very pleased to read about this clinical trial. As I worked as a midwife for many years, could really appreciate how this could really help newly delivered Mums.
BTW Have you sorted your Skype connection yet. Would be great to have a chat when you have time.
Patricia Perth Australia
This is wonderful news for my family. We are all having babies right now. I wonder if the lavender oil could be used for other things? Maybe after a surgery, or burns? Thanks for news.
Hi Jasmine
Welcome to my lavender blog. And yes if you read through some of my previous posts, I share about other uses this amazing aromatic herb is used for.
I trained as a midwife in Scotland and so this clinical trial was of special interest to me. And the lovely lavender came out smelling sweet…again
Thanks for stopping by and staying to comment. This post is on topic for those of you having babies. Glad you enjoyed the post.

Hi Patricia, What a great use for lavender! Not only for the medicinal value of it, but also for how great the new mum and her home will smell after using the lavender oil.
I like your new sidebar with the products listed. Anyone looking for a gift for a new mum can have easy shopping from your site!
Hi Carolyn
Thanks for stopping by and staying to comment. You are so right. The beautiful lavender perfume wafts through my home and when friends and family call in, they are always commenting on how lovely the perfume is
Great news for new Mums. Having worked as a midwife for many years, can appreciate the good news this could bring to those who do have some discomfort or pain post natally and this has been shown to help.
It is interesting that you just noticed my products in the sidebar. They have been there for some time, but I had a techie sort a few things on my blog that needed changing and he moved them up and repositioned them.
I was pleased with the end result, although I must admit that because these are sourced locally, still looking for some suitable lavender products that are sourced in the US too. Have my amazon products and there are some lavender products there if people don’t want to pay postage from Oz.
Do know that the local products are chemical free and really beautifully packaged. And my customers have re-ordered so that’s confirmation to me of satisfaction with the products too.
Patricia Perth Australia
Hi Patricia.
Can’t really take advantage of your midwifery skills but still an interesting article.
My lavender hedge is looking pretty good at the moment and I find it almost impossible to walk past without crushing the odd flower and smelling that fragrance.
BTW – not often that I get in this early in the comments. LOL
Hi Keith
Always good to see you amongst the lovely lavenders. The lavenders are starting to blossom here and I’ll be choosing some for my garden soon.
Only have a small patch where I can plant, but the lavenders will get first priority. Hopefully will be able to source one that may get people talking. If I manage to will write about it too
I do the same thing when I pass a lavender bush. Can’t resist crushing a flower and enjoying the beautiful perfume.
Have a great week Keith and thanks for stopping by.
Patricia Perth Australia
I use lavender, so I know how great this herb is. I believe that is much healthier to use lavender oil than treat health problems with other, not so natural products.
Hi Daca
Great to hear you appreciate the lovely lavender and use it too. I am constantly amazed when I discover yet another use for it too.
And one of the many beneifts is the lack of side-effects which makes it safe to use.
Thanks for joining the conversation Daca. Appreciated.

Hi Patricia,
This is a very interesting study. I will be sure to tell my cousin who will be having her second baby in a few months. I’m sure she’ll want to give it a try.
-Marianne
Hi Marianne
Lavender has both anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. So this should help postnatally.
Sounds like this is on topic with your cousin expecting her baby soon.
Glad you enjoyed the post Marianne. Have a great week and thanks for staying to comment.
Patricia Perth Australia
Hola ma’am; lavender is really amazing, it’s almost a natural wonder drug. I think it’s pretty neat all the uses you are teaching us about.
The more natural products we can use for our health and well being, certainly the better for us.
It sounds like you are still working on some things so I hope whatever it is, it is still a interesting and rewarding journey for you.
Good to see you and thanks for sharing this post.
Hi Bill
Thanks for stopping by. Hope the hols have gone well and you are feeling refreshed.
Lavender is the essential oil most used by many aromatherapists and there seems to be endless studies and trials that I will be able to keep bringing my readers
Enjoying getting ready for my new site. It is another health site and just researching and writing has taught me so much already. Hope to have it up in the next couple of weeks.
Have a great week Bill and thanks for staying to join the conversation. Appreciated.
Patricia Perth Australia
Hi Patricia,
This is a very interesting story about the use or application genuine and artificial lavender. Lavender without doubt has a relaxing and soothing effect and stress reduction properties. I wonder if you heal faster just because of that fact.
Now if you are not told if you are using synthetic lavender oil, could you benefit from it as well? Just through placebo effect, if you didn’t know?
Ben Wan
Hi Ben
Thanks for stopping by. With these randomised studies, the people taking part don’t know what they are using. That is so the results are true findings.
In research projects I have been involved in, we even had independent people interviewing the participants so they would not be influenced in their answers to questions we had included in our studies!
It is pointless doing a clinical trial that cannot be validated, and there are strict guidelines that usually need to be adhered to and ethics committees are sometimes involved.
In my previous post, the lavender studies that were done in Austria had really strict guidelines and I felt this showed that we could trust the published results.
That was a real breakthrough with a debilitating disorder. I have had lots of emails and questions following that post.
I try to keep up with the latest research and then write about it here. Some of the studies were done some time ago…..before I was blogging, so not all are recent.
But they all showcase the many uses of the lovely lavender and by writing about them, means people who visit my blog hopefully leave better informed.
Patricia Perth Australia
Patricia, I am a huge believer in natural health. As you say, it has less side effects and so on. What often makes me wonder though is how often medical doctors oppose to it. I am not sure how it is in Australia but over here many of them would imprison you just for the mention of herbal or natural medicine. Crazy.
Hi Thomas
Welcome to my lavender blog. Thanks for stopping by and staying to comment.
With all the clinical trials being done, it seems that the lovely lavender is being recognised for all its many uses. Has been used for thousands of years, but now it is being shown scientifically to have many healing properties.
I did read last year about attempts to restrict the use of natural products in Europe. Don’t know if it has progressed or not.
But the latest study that I wrote about in the previous post was conducted in Austria by medical practitioners, so there are still some European countries that are willing to acknowledge that natural products have their place in healing.
Just a suggestion. If you are going to comment regularly on blogs, pop across to gravitar.com and upload a gravitar. Some blog owners won’t approve comments without one.
Patricia Perth Australia
Hi Patricia, I think Europe is divided with regards to the approach to many things. Some countries here are quite forward thinking while in others certain things do take time to break into peoples minds, unfortunately.
Thanks for the tip with the gravatar.com site, will do that now
No problems Thomas. I was a newbie awhile back and appreciated when I was taught something new.
Also with gravitars, if you change your email address or use multiple sites to comment, then need to make sure they are all recorded so the gravitar always shows up.
Patricia Perth Australia
Hi Patricia,
That is a lovely article and such a good idea to support new mums with fragrant and healthful products. I can smell the lavender now. Since buying my lavender oil from you i use it every day. Pure oil for the feet to keep athlete’s foot at bay and drops mixed with sweet almond oil (organic cold pressed) for my skin. I hadn’t thought to add it to the bath. Now that winter is coming, it’s something to look forward to.
Julia
Hi Julia
Glad you enjoyed the article. Having worked as a midwife for some years, was especially interested in the findings from this study.
Glad the lavender essential oil has worked well. There are so many uses for it and I will continue to be researching this amazing aromatic herb and sharing here about them so that people leave here able to make informed choices about natural health products.
BTW what happened to your Gravitar? It’s not showing up here??!!
Have a great week Julia. Appreciate you stopping by.

Hi Patricia,
Lavender was the first essential oil I owned. I used it for everything and it worked for everything! I remember reading in an essential oil guide that Lavender was the “universal oil” – if you didn’t know which oil to use, use Lavender.
I put a lot of Pub med studies on my site – more are coming all the time about the positive effects of pure essential oils.
Lori
Hi Lori
Lavender essential oil is the most used of all the essential oils and the more I research its many uses, the more I realise why
It is encouraging to read about the many studies being done with essential oils and their uses being recognised by medical practitioners.
Of course, lavender has been used effectively for thousands of years, but now we are seeing scientific evidence to back it up.
Thanks for joining the conversation Lori. Appreciated.
Patricia Perth Australia
Wow, the healing properties of lavender just keep getting better and better. It is such an amazing essential oil. I wonder if the pills that you discussed in an earlier post (for anxiety) would help with pain as well.
Hi Victoria
It sure is an amazing essential oil and the one most used by many aromatherapists.
The lavender capsules used in the study on anxiety are not yet on the market. Still in the trial stage. So I can’t say what other effects that will have.
Will be writing more health posts on the lovely lavenders many uses, following more research.
Patricia Perth Australia
Lavender works wonders for the body and spirit!
So glad you shared this use for new moms.
The breeze is beautiful here on our deck, a relief after yesterday’s humidity.
I am going to start reading my favourite summer read, Empty House, a small novel by Rosamunde Pilcher. It is marked with the scent of lavender from sprigs of last year’s blooms!
Have a great day!
Hi Patricia
How wonderful to be able to smell those lavenders from last year’s blooms
I have an embrodered lavender sachet my Mother made me many years ago. She was surprised when I told her that the scent is still as strong as when she gave it to me.
I am planning on planting some lavender bushes in my new garden. So many to choose from. Will be taking some pictures and sharing them with my readers as soon as they are in.
Lavender is an amazing aromatic herb isn’t it. And its relaxing properties are great….especially after a day’s work or just to enjoy in the evening to add to a warm bath.
Thanks for stopping by and joining the conversation Patricia. Will be over to check out your post later.
Patricia Perth Australia
Patricia, I think it’s wonderful that this blog publishes information about this sort of trial. All we ever seem to hear about is drugs with awful side effects, not natural remedies which have been shown to work.
I had an operation on my leg in 2008 and since then have bathed with lavender oil. I’m delighted to hear it is good for me, but I wouldn’t miss it, just for the heavenly smell!
Hi Lesley
Glad you are enjoying the lavender information I am publishing. Like to keep my readers informed of any use is for the lovely lavender that I come across as I research more about it.
Great that you have been using lavender oil for healing purposes. It has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties so can aid with healing.
Thanks for stopping by and joining the conversation Lesley. Appreciated.
Pat,
How are you doing? Hope everything is going well with you and your online endeavors.
Thanks for another great benefit of lavender. I believe this is a must read post for my wife – I am going to get here right now..hehe
You have a blessed day!
Talk soon.
Hi Adam
Things are going well. Almost ready to put up my new site. Hopefully will happen in the next couple of weeks.
Been busy writing and researching for it and now it is coming together. A techie friend will help with all the coding and other stuff that I have no idea about.
I was impressed with this study too. Especially having worked as a midwife and seen the discomfort some women experience following child birth.
The lovely lavender comes up smelling sweet again and there are more posts to come that will confirm this aromatic herb has yet even more uses
Have a great week Adam and hope all’s going well for you too.
Patricia Perth Australia
So many! I thought lavender was lavender, what more than the oh so beautiful color and smell; but you just proved me wrong…in all the healing ways!
Hi Hajra
Thanks for stopping by and staying to join the conversation. Glad you are becoming better informed about the many uses of the lovely lavender.
It is a beautiful colour, has an amazing perfume and even more uses than I have so far shared. More to come Hajra.
Have a good day and hope things are going well for you too.

Hi Everyone,
Well there is too much about lavender in this article and there is not much left to talk about its advantages. But centuries ago during Roman times, Lavender was commonly used in Roman baths to scent the water, and it was thought to restore the skin. The Greeks discovered early on that lavender if crushed and treated correctly would release a relaxing fume when burned.
Hi John
Regular readers of my blog have read many posts where I speak of all the advantages and properties of this amazing aromatic herb.
I devoted a post to the history of lavender whereby I went through from ancient Egyptian and Romans using lavender to the present time.
It truly is an amazing aromatic herb. There are even posts on cooking with lavender. If you have time, explore my blog and hopefully you will find other posts you will enjoy too.
Thanks for your input John. Have a great day.
Patricia Perth Australia
Hi Patricia,
Thanks for replying.I really love to read historical topics and do check out your post about lavenders history. Well I probably check your post regarding cooking, but I don’t think I would try the cooking. Because If I would my girlfriend will certainly make me her cook….lol
Hi John
glad you are enjoying your visits and the posts I write about the lovely lavender.
Lavender is a member of the mint family. I know when I tell people it can be used in cooking, some are somewhat surprised LOL
When my e-book on all things lavender comes out, it will have lots of recipes for people to try.
Patricia Perth Australia
This is a very good study. Truth is, I didn’t know the benefits I can get from lavender except essential oils. Not only my favorite color is purple, I also like the smell of lavender. I am amazed that it can relieve pain and it can act as anti-bacterial agent.
Hi Abby
Glad you learnt something from visiting and reading this post.
Purple is my favourite colour too. And the beautiful perfume of the lovely lavender is the best in my opinion.
If you have time have a look around and read some of the other posts I have written about its many uses.
I’m sure you will get some surprises. I know I did when I was researching this amazing aromatic herb.
Patricia Perth Australia
Whoa, this sounds like yet another great natural alternative to loading your system down with chemicals.
A friend of mine just gave birth a few weeks ago. I’m going to have to tell her to go ahead and get pregnant again so she can benefit from this
Hi John
Thanks for stopping by. I am constantly amazed at the many uses of the lovely lavender. Having been a midwife, this was an especially interesting study for me to read about.
Your friend will probably find this post interesting too. And if still experiencing any discomfort, may want to add some lavender essential oil to a bath to relax.
Patricia Perth Australia
Hallo, my sweet-smelling Lavender lady friend.
How has your week been so far?
I am always happy to read about what you can share about the healing magic of lavender. There is just one thing I regret though and that is not knowing you when I was having my babies. I wouldn’t have had much trouble with pain then had I known that lavender could help a lot.
But, I can always share your precious posts to friends and loved ones. I am sure they will appreciate it as much as I do.
Lovely visiting with you, Patricia. Until next time.
Hi Kim
Nice to see you back amongst the lavenders
Hope your week is going well.
I was so encouraged with this study; especially as I have worked as a midwife. And great that a natural product is so effective.
Great that you can pass this information onto your friends too. I like it that when people visit here they can go away being better informed about this amazing aromatic herb…and now there is scientific proof that it works.
Patricia Perth Australia
Great stuff Patricia, I like this read.
I work in a hospital, and I do question (at times) the usage of some of our treatments. They work in the short-term, but they barely last for the long-term. They’re just stopgaps for temporary relief.
Lavender may not work any longer, but wouldn’t it be less painful and stressful? This, in turn, may help in the long-term
Hi Stuart
When I worked as a nurse and also as a midwife I remember thinking about all the side effects with pharmacopia.
Then a few years ago I started looking at organic and natural products. I figured that chemical free products just had to be healthier.
And the more I research the lovely lavender and its many uses; the more I am amazed at all its different healing properties.
Now with so many clinical trials being done, there is now confirmation even by the medical profession that these natural products do work.
And I like your point about helping in the long term too. Thanks for adding to the conversation Stuart. Appreciated.
Patricia Perth Australia
Patricia,
I love the clinical trial results breakdown. It is so much better to SHOW the way it has been effective in fighting those common aches and pains.
Very effective advocacy of sweet lavender
-S
Hi Steve
Thanks for stopping by. I especially found this one interesting, having seen what women go through, when I was a practicing midwife in the UK.
There are more posts on the way about the sweet lavender as it has so many uses. And it appears that my readers are enjoying learning more about it.
And great GP over on Bran’s site. Way to go Steve.
Patricia Perth Australia
I will also recommend lavender oil for heartburn/acid reflux sufferers to alleviate their anxiety and stress. Anxiety and stress are 2 main contributing factors that people get heartburn / acid reflux
Hi David
I have heard it is good for heartburn. Haven’t researched that property of the lovely lavender yet.
Maybe that’s for another post
I’ve just been over and checked out your site. Lots of information for your readers.
Thanks for stopping by and joining the conversation David. Appreciated.

Hi Patricia,
What a lot of comments! I have a midwife friend who has just this week started her own consultancy, simply because her NHS clients want her to give them the after care that used to be so easy to get. It’s such a shame, there’s so much untapped knowledge that our midwifes have and in the end people resort to the internet, where they may or may not get lucky with the advice they find. There are lots of great places to get advice (like this post for example), but also some places where there can be some real damage done.
It’s a great opportunity for independent midwives of course, but yet I can’t help feeling that we’re leaving behind the human touch that used to make childbirth and the time that comes after such a joy.
Hi Dan
Welcome to my lavender blog. Sorry you ended up in spam! There is nothing in your post that should have put you there!!! Now that your comment has been approved, if you come back and comment on other posts you shouldn’t have to worry about that again.
I worked as a midwife in Scotland and then down in England when I was living in the UK. Have been back home in Oz for 10 years now, so can’t really comment on the state of the NHS! When I did my midwifery training in Glasgow the care was excellent. Sad if things have changed now.
Since starting this blog in 2010, I have been researching the lovely lavenders many uses and been so encouraged by all the data I have found, backed up by medical research.
Having a nursing background and having been previously involved in research, I really enjoy the validation natural health products are getting from these studies.
I have written several other posts on lavender health you may be interested in too. And I do agree, we have to make sure that the information we not only read, but also write about is correct.
Glad you enjoyed the post David. Have a great week and hope to see you visiting again sometime.
Patricia Perth Australia
Patricia,
This is an interesting post. As a mother of twins, I agree the transition of coming from the hospital and caring for the babies is when the pain and what not really kicks into gear. I wish I would have known about this post pregnancy with them. I was fortunate enough to have help when I first came home, but I also suffered serious comlications shortly after my help left. Thank you for sharing.
Hi Lynda
Twins, wow. Double blessing eh
And yes, this study will be welcomed by lots of women when they are expecting a newborn.
I really found it interesting; having delivered many babies in my role as a midwife.
Now you will be able to pass this information on and hopefully others will get some pain relief post delivery.
Thanks for stopping by Lynda and joining the conversation. Appreciated.
Patricia Perth Australia
Wow! This is such a powerful study, Patricia! I wonder if it’s antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties contribute to its relaxing effects too. We’re often not truly aware of what’s going on in our bodies.
Just last month, I had no idea that my “cold” was actually strep throat! I was just waiting for it to go away. Thank goodness my dad forced me to go to the doctor. I think he had a feeling that something was up!
Thanks for this informative post, Patricia! =) I always learn tons here and love promoting the positive effects of lavender to others. =)
Hi Samantha
Glad you leave better informed about the lovely lavender and its many uses after visiting here.
That is the aim of these posts, so I’m encouraged that you do find them helpful.
It is great that there are so many clinical trials taking place that are confirming the healing properties of natural products.
And the fact that there are less side-effects is a big plus too.
Thanks for your input Samantha. Appreciated.
Patricia Perth Australia
I’m glad to see that the trial was conducted in such a sensible fashion – it would have been so easy for the triallists not to include the synthetic lavender – which would have negated the results entirely by no discounting potential placebo affects.
So it is difficult to question the results – even if you are sceptical about natural remedies.
Hi Polly
Clinical trials usually have stringent rules and for them to be validated and published, certain criteria has to be adhered to.
The previous post I did on a study done in Austria, certainly did. Because I have a nursing background, I thoroughly researched and read all the stipulations laid down by the ethics committee involved and the results that were published.
With so much validation and the many clinical trials of natural health products now being done by medical researchers; it is encouraging to see the results.
I think the sceptics will have to acknowledge that just as these products have been used for thousands of years to good effect, now there is scientific proof that indeed they do have effective healing properties. Good news indeed
Patricia Perth Australia
Hi Patricia,
I will definitely keep this in mind, especially when I am going to have my first baby in the near future
I didn’t know that lavenders can help after childbirth.
I am one of those who have very low tolerance to pain.
Thanks for sharing with us the clinical trials and results!
Hi Johanna
Lovely to have you visiting. Thanks for stopping by and staying to join the conversation.
Lavender indeed has many healing properties. And as I worked as a midwife for many years, this clinical trial was of special interest to me.
Lavender has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. It certainly seems to have worked postnatally for many women as this study has shown.
Hope all’s going well for you Johanna. And I’m glad this information has been helpful too.
Patricia Perth Australia
Hi Patricia,
I have always loved lavender and keep a bottle of essential oil with me.
I know of the many uses as I had once a keen interest in the uses of essential oils. However, this is new and it’s great news.
Just a bit off topic. I visited Provence in France and as I love lavender, I was in heaven
I will be back to learn and read more about lavenders from you.
Many thanks,
Diana
Hi Diana
Good to know that you appreciate this amazing aromatic herb and all its many uses. And I am hoping to be writing more posts on the lovely lavenders healing properties too.
When I lived and worked in the UK I visited Norfolk Lavender farm; so I can appreciate how much you would have enjoyed your visit to Provence. Must admit, English lavender is still my favourite
Thanks for your input Diana. Appreciated.
Patricia Perth Australia
Great post.Lavender was the first essential oil I choose for our every day meal.My sister-in-law will give birth on next week and I introduce her about my favorite product. Thanks for your sharing
Hi Haley
How very timely this post is for you. Hope your sister-in-law is keeping good health and now you will be able to share this information with her.
Thanks for stopping by and I did visit your site. You may be interested in reading some of my other lavender health posts.
Lavender is very effective in managing stress and anxiety, and now there are clinical trials that have confirmed the healing properties of this amazing aromatic herb. Sweet.

Hi Patricia,
I wish I’d known about this back when I was having babies. But I’ll remember it when the next generation in our family goes that road.
My lavender is doing great. Funny thing I noticed though… the flower stems are really long on this one and the flower will curl (more like curve) itself around the branches of another plant next to it.
Peggy
Hi Peggy
Always nice to see you amongst the lavenders here. It is an encouraging result to share isn’t it? Having worked as a midwife, I did find it an especially interesting study.
And I must say, I haven’t heard of or seen the phenomenum you are sharing about your lavender. Do you know which species it is?
The lavenders are just starting to flower here and I must say I am enjoying seeing them in the surrounding gardens. The fragrance of the perfume is lovely and they do grow easily in our climate here in Perth.
Patricia Perth Australia
Hi Patricia,
Your post speaks mostly for women. May I ask how can lavender be useful for men, too? My girlfriend just bought an air freshener with a lavender scent and I didn’t like it at first. But now I got used with the smell already. Then she kept telling me that it gives aromatherapy, too.
Hi Paul
Welcome to my lavender blog. This is the only post I have written related specifically to women. The rest are relevant for all.
Depending on whether the lavender air freshener was organic lavender or a commercial derivative, will make a difference to the aroma.
Some are very overpowering. Whereas organic English and French lavender both have a subtle perfume.
I have written other health posts and also written about lavender essential oil and its many benefits too.
Your girlfriend is correct in saying that it is used in aromatherapy. It is the most popular of all the essential oils and does have many uses.
Thanks for stopping by and joining the conversation Paul. Appreciated.

Hey Patricia,
Its good to see you again, its been a while, I was busy with a lot of work related stuff, but now I can finally get back to the world of blogging again, and focus more on that.
I’m really happy that your blog reached this level of success, you give me great hope, I wish you the best and as always you’ve taught me something new about the lovely lavender, thank you so much.
Take Care.
Hi Sayed
Nice to see you back. Glad you are able to get back to blogging. I am busy writing articles for a new site I will be putting up in the next couple of weeks.
Looking forward to seeing how it goes as it will be a different biz model to my lavender blog. All the best for your efforts too Sayed.

I never thought that aside from its sweet scent, lavender can also heal the pains and aches of a sick individual. In the movie Maid in Manhattan, JL put lavender on the bed because she knows that their guest will really like the aroma. good to know that it so many uses.
Hi Raverture
Glad you have learnt something on visiting my blog. Lavender has many uses and is used to good effect with insomnia, anxiety and various other conditions.
I have written several health posts sharing about the many healing properties of this amazing aromatic herb. And there will be more to come.
Thanks for stopping by and staying to comment. Appreciated.

Wow, this is the first time I know that the Lavender has a healing properties. It can heal the pains and aches of a sick person aside from its sweet smell. This has no side effects because its a natural health product. Thank you for this information about Lavender.
Hi Mamie
Welcome to my lavender blog. thanks for stopping by and joining the conversation.

Yet another interesting use. I’m just curious who does these studies because it’s nice that they are looking at non drug solutions.
A midwife! I think that would be one of the most amazing jobs.
HI Melinda
The health posts I do where I say clinical trials have been done are done by medical personnel. some are medical researchers, doctors, nurses and in this instance midwives would have been involved.
Depending on the study undertaken and the country in which it is carried out, different guidelines will be outlined and needed to be followed.
I know when I was involved in research in the UK, it was a lot of work and had to be done very thoroughly. Ethics committees are often involved and before publication there is a lot of input by other medical professionals.
Medical researchers are now looking at natural products and doing clinical trials that are affirming what people have known for thousands of years.
That these natural products have healing properties and are effective to use in many conditions. This is great news, especially as there are few side-effects.
And yes, working as a midwife was both rewarding and enjoyable. The miracle of birth always brought a tear to my eye when a newborn was delivered safely.

Hi, Patricia. You already have quite a conversation going on here and about lavender to boot. I see that you are really quite effective in sharing what you know about your niche. You have people coming over no matter what you right. Kudos for that! Now, if only these lavender trials were done way before my wife had our kids, she would have welcomed this.
Hi Wes

Very encouraging as it shows me that my readers are enjoying the health posts as much as I enjoy researching and writing them.
And thanks for the kind words too. I do enjoy sharing about the many uses of this amazing aromatic herb. Having people better informed about its uses is what this blog is all about.
Having worked as a midwife, could appreciate that this would be helpful to a lot of women and from the responses to the post, I do believe it has been.
Hope things are going well for you too Wes. I’m busy getting ready to launch another new site so not been blog hopping much lately or even been on Twitter a lot either!

I never thought lavender could be very very helpful and have a lot of usage more than what I thought. What just I know it could be added as a flavor for perfumes, a beautiful garden flower and nothing else I know Thank you for the info.

Good point about Lavender for new and lactating mom’s. It’s too late for me since I am a granny now, however I will pass this good news onto my daughter, and favorite niece who is expecting a baby any day now. The point I want to make for anyone who reads my comment is that it is so important to stay as natural as possible. Blogs like this one is wonderful to help spread the word about holistic remedies.
Hi Dori
This was some interesting research I happened to find. As I have been a midwife, was of special interest to me.
Yet another use for the lovely lavender. And I agree. Using natural products with less side-effects is a great choice wherever possible.
